Business‑Functional Analyst – Academic Quality and Operational Excellence Reporting to the Senior Business Analyst, the Business‑Functional Analyst supports the strategic evolution of Academic Quality and Operational Excellence (AQOE) by serving as a business and functional subject matter expert for AQOE‑sponsored systems and platforms. The role works at the intersection of academic operations, policy and procedure, people, process, and technology, overseeing platform stewardship across its lifecycle and ensuring systems align with operational needs and institutional context. Role Scope and Fit Considerations Interested in ongoing stewardship of business systems and platforms, including support, refinement, and adoption after implementation Enjoy working in environments where policy, process, and system considerations intersect, and where requirements may evolve over time Comfortable facilitating analysis‑driven conversations, documenting decisions, and translating complex requirements into visual materials (process maps, workflows, configuration models, training aids) Thrives in highly relational roles that emphasize influence, collaboration, and operational continuity Software development or technical system configuration Short‑term or project‑only delivery assignments People management or senior enterprise strategy ownership Solely analytical, reporting, or data‑centric responsibilities Key Responsibilities Business and Functional Analysis Represent business owner interests as the subject matter expert for assigned AQOE platforms, maintaining a strong understanding of system capabilities, constraints, and institutional use Facilitate requirements gathering with academic and operational stakeholders to clarify needs, risks, dependencies, and decision implications Translate business needs into clear functional requirements and business‑side configuration recommendations Support development and refinement of governance rules, decision criteria, and standard practices related to AQOE systems Platform Stewardship and Adoption Apply business and functional analysis to identify gaps in system understanding, training, and adoption, prioritizing enablement work based on operational risk and user impact Provide business‑side stewardship and configuration of AQOE‑sponsored systems, partnering with technical teams responsible for system build and infrastructure Support platforms beyond initial implementation, including business‑led enhancements, refinements, and issue resolution informed by operational use and user feedback Develop and maintain training and enablement materials, including process maps, workflows, configuration models, and user guides Provide ongoing end‑user support, responding to questions, clarifying system behaviour, and identifying training or documentation gaps Contribute to adoption and continuous improvement activities to ensure systems remain well understood, consistently used, and aligned with business needs Collaboration and Engagement Work closely with academic leaders, operational teams, and Information Technology Services to support effective platform stewardship and system use Facilitate cross‑functional conversations where policy, process, and system constraints intersect Prepare clear analysis, documentation, and recommendations to support informed decision‑making Qualifications Post‑secondary diploma or degree in business analysis, information systems, operations, or a related field Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in a Business Analyst, Functional Analyst, or similar role supporting enterprise or operational systems Strong facilitation and communication skills, with experience working with non‑technical stakeholders Experience producing process documentation and visual artifacts to support understanding and adoption Ability to work effectively in complex, evolving, and ambiguous environments Assets Experience in post‑secondary education, public sector, or regulated environments Familiarity with academic operations, scheduling, curriculum processes, or quality assurance frameworks Experience supporting system adoption, training, or change management activities Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
