Job Description The CIMA+ offices in Western Canada are growing rapidly, offering new, complex projects that provide a chance to shape and influence outcomes. Our Energy & Resources team, with more than 700 highly qualified professionals, specializes in the energy transition, supporting clients from feasibility studies to commissioning across renewable and resource transformation markets. Lead Project Engineer – Lines (hybrid, Vancouver, BC or Edmonton, AB) will bring strong engineering knowledge for high‑voltage transmission lines and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate engineering, estimating, planning and quality management for medium‑ to high‑complexity projects. Primary Responsibilities Conduct multidisciplinary technical coordination for preliminary and detailed design deliverables, including electrical, civil, structural, geotechnical, and line design disciplines. Develop safe engineering solutions, using judgment and initiative for line routing, structure selection, conductor selection, and problem resolution on highly complex projects. Resolve technical and field engineering problems through independent studies and analysis, recommending safe solutions to support project completion. Deliver exceptional customer service by communicating with stakeholders, defining scope, establishing design criteria, reviewing documentation, and reporting progress to support safe, high‑quality, on‑time, on‑budget delivery. Coordinate design reviews, both internally and with clients, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, client requirements, and CIMA+ quality management system. Collaborate with the Project Manager to align scope, schedule, cost, risks, and engineering deliverables. Create engineering Work Packages and support development of the overall Work Breakdown Structure. Coordinate across engineering disciplines to ensure alignment of scope and deliverables. Manage technical interfaces between disciplines, functional areas, and stakeholders. Act as primary interface with the Owner’s Engineering Team. Develop engineering cost estimates, scope of work descriptions, and engineering schedules for proposals. Monitor project progress and performance against established terms of reference and work plans. Monitor quality and completeness of engineering deliverables, applying QA/QC practices to meet stage gate and quality requirements. Identify, monitor, and resolve technical issues that may affect project budgets and timelines within established milestones. Consult with clients, regulatory authorities, land agencies, and other stakeholders to support project execution, permitting, and effective information exchange. Collaborate with the client’s engineering team to address complex transmission line engineering challenges, providing practical, solutions‑oriented support to manage and mitigate risks. Support the Construction Management team by coordinating engineering inputs, addressing site issues, and facilitating timely responses to RFIs and field changes. Qualifications 10+ years of Transmission Line engineering experience. University Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural or Electrical Engineering. Registered member of Engineer and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or eligibility to register. Advanced experience with electrical design for electric utility substations. Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE and Canadian Utility standards. Valid Canadian Driver’s License. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; French knowledge is an asset. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities, with exceptional initiative and attention to detail. Skills in work organization, priority management, and ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, deadline‑oriented environment. Sound professional judgement, initiative and ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Ability to work independently and within a team across disciplines. Working knowledge of Microsoft D365 (asset). Experience with coordinating multi‑discipline designs and construction projects (asset). Client focused and flexible to respond to short‑notice assignments and project‑based client demands. Ability to manage and mentor junior engineers and technologists.
