These duties normally occur during regular working hours. Infantry Officers will be posted initially to one of three regiments: The Royal Canadian Regiment in Petawawa, Ontario or Gagetown, New Brunswick; Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Edmonton, Alberta or Shilo, Manitoba; or The Royal 22e Régiment in Valcartier, Quebec City, Laval, or Saint‑Hyacinthe, Quebec. For those requiring a university degree, the CAF offers a structured program to complete a bachelor’s degree through the Royal Military College System, with full-time salary, medical and dental coverage, and vacation pay in exchange for service commitments. Training Training proceeds through several phases: basic officer training at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School (12 weeks), optional second‑language training (2–9 months), Infantry School training focusing on platoon command and leadership, and advanced training on mechanized operations, including use of Light Armoured Vehicles and night‑vision systems. Advanced courses such as Patrol Pathfinder, Basic Parachutist, and Free Fall may be available to selected officers. Reserve Force members typically serve at their home unit on evenings and weekends, may take on full‑time roles for fixed terms, and are paid 92.8% of Regular Force rates.
