Reports Directly To: ATS Engineering Manager Thomson Power Systems, a Regal Rexnord company, is a leading manufacturer of Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), switchgear, and power control systems serving power generation, data centre, and critical infrastructure markets for over 50 years. This role offers the opportunity to work on ATS custom-engineered products and New Product Development (NPD) initiatives within a fast-growing engineering organization. YOUR MISSION The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design, development, and release of Automatic Transfer Switch ATS products, supporting both customer-specific engineered solutions and internal new product development programs. Mechanical design of low voltage Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and control panels. Review customer specifications, drawings, and datasheets; generate technical clarifications as required. Prepare preliminary mechanical layouts, outline drawings, preliminary bills of material, and technical data for customer approval. Develop detailed fabrication drawings, final BOMs, and release complete design packages to Purchasing and Manufacturing. Design indoor and outdoor sheet-metal enclosures, structural frames, brackets, and mounting hardware. Design breaker and power contactor mounting systems, mechanical bus bar support systems, and bracing. Utilize 3D CAD tools (Autodesk Inventor / SolidWorks) to create parametric models and assemblies. Support New Product Development (NPD) activities including concept development, prototyping, design validation, and production release. Coordinate with Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Field Service teams. Support certification and compliance activities (UL / CSA / NEMA) through mechanical documentation and test support. Ensure designs comply with internal standards, manufacturing constraints, and cost targets. Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives related to design standardization and cost reduction. Support development of standard mechanical test plans based on existing protocols. Other duties as assigned. ARE YOU THE ONE? Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a recognized Technology Diploma with equivalent experience. 3–5 years of mechanical design experience with electrical switchgear Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (preferred), SolidWorks, and AutoCAD Classic. Demonstrated experience producing manufacturing-ready drawings and BOMs. Strong understanding of sheet-metal fabrication, tolerancing, and mechanical assemblies. Manufacturing or industrial equipment design experience is an asset. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Eligible to work in Canada without company-sponsored authorization. Preferred Qualifications Experience with ATS, switchgear, power distribution equipment, or industrial enclosures. Exposure to UL / CSA certification processes. Experience working in a structured New Product Development (NPD) environment. Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP preferred). #J-18808-Ljbffr
