Duration: 2 years (with potential for permanent employment) Security Clearance: Reliability (or eligibility to obtain) The Role: We are establishing a collections service and are seeking an experienced professional to support the setup and ongoing operations of the collections function. This role requires hands‑on experience across all areas of a collection agency, including operations, compliance, financial administration and team oversight. The successful candidate will ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with applicable debtor/creditor laws and regulatory requirements, while supporting the development of processes, controls and team capabilities. Responsibilities: Perform debt collection activities, including contacting debtors and negotiating repayment arrangements. Maintain accurate books, records and documentation for all collection activities and accounts. Manage and administer collection agency trust accounts, ensuring proper handling and reconciliation of funds. Ensure all collection activities comply with applicable debtor/creditor laws and regulations. Supervise and support collectors, including monitoring performance, providing guidance and ensuring adherence to policies. Assist in establishing and implementing collection processes, procedures and controls. Monitor delinquent accounts and develop strategies to improve recovery rates. Handle escalated or complex collection cases and disputes. Prepare reports on collection activities, performance and compliance as required. Qualifications: Candidates must meet all requirements for registration under the Collection and Debt Settlement Services Act (CDSSA). Preference will be given to candidates who are already registered and in good standing. 2+ years of experience working within a collection agency across all core functional areas. Experience performing collections activities as an active collector. Experience maintaining financial records and operational documentation within a collection agency environment. Experience managing trust accounts, including reconciliation and control of client funds. Experience interpreting and applying debtor/creditor legislation and regulatory requirements. Experience supervising or leading collectors within a regulated collections environment. Strong knowledge of collections operations, compliance frameworks and regulatory expectations. Ability to operate with a high degree of accountability in a regulated and audit‑sensitive environment. Sound judgment in handling complex accounts, disputes and compliance‑related matters. Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and enforce standards. Strong analytical capability with attention to detail in financial tracking and reporting. Clear and professional communication skills with strong negotiation and de‑escalation ability. Currently residing in the Ottawa‑Gatineau region and holding, or being eligible to obtain, a Government of Canada Reliability security clearance. Ability to communicate in both English and French is considered an asset.
