Overview CAREER INFORMATION ADVISOR The Richmond School District is among the largest in British Columbia with a history of high graduation rates and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The district operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and related facilities, serving approximately 21,000 students with over 3,000 staff. Major Duties And Responsibilities Obtains, organizes and promotes Career Resource materials such as postsecondary calendars, career information, booklets, pamphlets, labour market information and scholarship, bursary and other funding sources. Ensures information is current and organized. Distributes and signs out materials to students and teachers. Explores career and post-secondary options with students on an individual basis or in a class setting. Provides information related to post-secondary education, vocational training, and apprenticeship programs. Assists students in resume writing, filling out applications, applying for scholarships, preparing for interviews and accessing job resources. Responds to inquiries and provides information to students, teachers, employer-sponsors and scholarship donors regarding the Career Resource Centre and available services. Visits classrooms to provide career exploration assessment preparation, scholarship information, post-secondary admission requirements and application procedures, and to explain the role of the Career Information Advisor in relation to students’ needs. Sets up displays of career and post-secondary educational resource materials and prepares announcements for job fairs, guest speakers and student employment opportunities. Posts information from employers regarding employment opportunities. Coordinates school/community career events and presentations by contacting and booking speakers, arranging room setups, and coordinating with teachers and coordinators. Maintains National Occupational Classification information and filing systems. Performs clerical duties related to the position and produces memos, bulletins, letters and other general correspondence as necessary. Maintains current knowledge of changes affecting post-secondary institutions and labour market trends. Performs other job-related and clerical duties of comparable importance, difficulty and responsibility as required. Required Qualifications Grade 12 supplemented by Career Counselling courses from a recognized institution plus one (1) year experience working with adolescents or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough knowledge of computer software applications applicable to the position. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with Counsellors, Teachers and Administrators. Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students. Ability to organize workload, meet deadlines and complete assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Contract and employment details: This is a unionized position with CUPE Local 716. This position is not eligible for benefits. An additional 4% is added to the 30.12 wage rate in lieu of vacation. This is an in-person, 10-month (September to June), 35 hour/week position. This is a temporary contract ending March 31, 2027.
